It's annoying, we know. We are currently finishing up 2019 pre-orders and are not taking any additional pre-orders. From now on we will be listing gear on the website as it's built and ready for immediate purchase. As gear becomes available we'll let everyone know on social channels and in email. Thank you for your love and support for Meandering Maker gear ❤️
The M3 Backcountry Bushcraft Pack is the final answer in multi-day backcountry exploring. When the adventure at hand calls for a big load, the M3 is ready. With a 45L main compartment and four super-sized outside pouches - each accessible without having to open the main compartment - the M3 is roomy enough to carry not just the gear you need, but the gear you often leave behind because you've maxed out a smaller pack. With the M3 you don't have to compromise about what to take into the bush.
The M3 is specifically designed for extended trips where self-reliance and ingenuity are part of the fun. Each external pocket is open in the back, creating a slip-behind pocket perfect for carrying a folding saw, tent poles, hatchet, map, or other thin pieces of kit you need easy access to. A 3" x 10" axe sleeve centered between the front pouches is ready for nearly any size and shape axe you can carry, and the four D-rings on the sides of the axe sleeve offer additional lashing and clipping options.
The gear-swallowing main compartment is 14"W x 8"D x 24"H, making it one of the highest capacity bushcraft-specific waxed canvas packs on the market. The dimensions are no accident: we chose these measurements after years of testing and customer feedback as we searched for the sweet spot between capacity, comfort, and balance. The M3 is tall and deep enough to handle layers of gear but narrow enough to maintain your center of gravity, even with the large side pockets fully loaded.
At 5"W x 5"D x 12"H the side pouches are uniquely designed to allow you to compartmentalize and categorize your kit. Use one side to hold all your cooking and hydration gear - billy can, canteen, filter, spork, cup - and the other to carry your shelter system - tarp/tent, cordage, stakes and clips, even a hammock if that's your thing.
The 4"W x 4"D x 12"H gusseted front pouches expand generously to give you quick access to smaller items that pile up, like your first aid kit, head lamp, water bottle, gloves, trail snacks, bandanna, extra socks, and anything else you want instant access too without opening the main compartment.
All four outside pouches feature a fitted lid with full coverage on all sides, offering full protection from the elements while also helping keep contents from accidentally escaping as you meander through the trees searching for the perfect spot to set up camp.
The M3 features the same ultra comfortable shoulder pads found on all our packs. We start with a base of 3/8" thick closed foam padding - especially known for its ability to hold its shape and structure even after years of use - adhered to a 2" wide bridle leather base. We then wrap the pads in a soft but durable chrome tan leather and attach it by sewing through the outer leather, the padding, and finally the bridle base. This ensures the padding will stay in place in not slide around or clump up over time the way other similar styles of shoulder pads do.
The M3 comes standard with a 5" x 7" sleeve on the back panel designed to fit most any waist belt, including one made by us. The sleeve is strategically located at the same part of the bag where the should pads buckle to the pack. This allows the load to be shared by your hips and shoulders at the same time, distributing the load more evenly reducing stress and keeping you on the trail longer.
Add a removable, adjustable sternum strap to add even more stability to big loads. Made from the same thick bridle leather we use on our packs, our sternum strap wont stretch or weaken over time, and our unique design makes adjustments even under load easy and safe.
Complete your rig by adding a pair of matching leather bedroll straps. Our bedroll straps are specifically made to fit easily through the bedroll strap tabs found on all Meandering Maker packs. Made from the same thick bridle leather found on our packs, these 1" x 26" straps are perfect not only for lashing gear to the top and/or bottom of your pack, but for using around camp for tasks like bundling firewood. They can even be used as a tourniquet in an emergency.
